Things to Do Before Visiting a Dermatologist
To streamline your dermatology appointment in Fort Collins or Loveland location, we ask that you complete a few easy tasks beforehand. Please gather and bring documentation regarding your medical history and be prepared to answer questions. Many skin conditions are hereditary, so our team should be aware of any family history of skin problems. We also need to know what medications you are taking so that we can devise an appropriate treatment plan for you. Ahead of each appointment, please remove nail polish and makeup so that we can perform a full skin screening.
Be Prepared to Answer Various Questions
In addition to providing us with your medical history forms, we ask that you are prepared to answer a series of questions to help guide your treatment. Such queries will pertain to your current condition, lifestyle habits, and more. They may include:
- When did you first notice a growth/lesion?
- Has it grown significantly since it appeared?
- Have you or any family members been previously diagnosed with skin cancer?
- Have you received radiation therapy for any medical condition?
- How much sun exposure do you get regularly?
- What precautions do you take when you are in the sun?
- Are you taking or have you ever taken medications that can suppress your immune system?
- Do you smoke?
- What is your occupation?
- Have you been exposed to herbicides or pesticides at work?
- What types of skin products do you use?
- How often do you perform a self-skin exam?
What to Expect from a Dermatology Appointment
Divine Dermatology & Surgical Institute uses results-driven procedures to treat our patients’ overall dermatological health. Regular appointments are necessary to monitor your condition. Our skin screenings can help identify various skin cancers, such as basal cell carcinomas, squamous cell carcinomas, and melanomas. But our team can do much more than simply diagnose skin cancer. We can perform techniques such as Mohs surgery to treat the disease. Dr. Divine is a member of the American College of Mohs Surgery, and she remains up to date with all the latest procedures and technology. Also, Dr. Divine is board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology, which means she can help treat both common and rare skin problems. Among the skin conditions we treat are acne, psoriasis, vitiligo, drug rashes, and more. We can even help improve your skin’s appearance using cosmetic solutions, Botox®, and laser aesthetic treatments.
Our Team Will Check for More than Acne
Though most associate a dermatology visit with acne treatments, we check for many other conditions that can affect your skin. Because skin conditions can be found anywhere on your person, you may be asked to disrobe for a full-body check. Such an examination is intended to identify suspicious moles or other growths that may go unnoticed by an untrained eye. Common skin conditions that we will address and treat using state-of-the-art medications and technologies include rosacea, psoriasis, eczema, various types of dermatitis, warts, hives, vitiligo, shingles, and fungal infections of the skin and nails. Among the rarer conditions, Divine Dermatology treats are bullous pemphigoid, pemphigus vulgaris, lichen planus, and rheumatic diseases. We can also assist with purely cosmetic treatments to enrich and enliven your skin so that you can present the best version of yourself whenever you are in public.
