4 Most Effective Laser Treatments for Every Skin Type
Laser treatments for your skin are direct, short, concentrated, pulsating, beams of light directed at skin irregularities to remove layers of skin and promote collagen growth. They remove the epidermal and superficial dermal layers of the skin. The cost of laser treatments vary depending on the type of treatments, where your treatment takes place, and the number treatments that will be needed, but the average cost for ablative treatments are $2,509 and non-ablative for $1,445. Clients choose laser treatments from scars, tattoos, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and wrinkles, but there isn’t a one-size-fits-all laser treatment for all skin types. We want to introduce to you the four most effective laser treatments for every skin type.
Before Your Treatments
The first thing on your journey to healthier skin is to meet with your dermatologist to discuss your skincare goals. This conversation will include sharing your medical history of previous surgeries, past and present health problems, medications, and supplements. Your dermatologist will then examine your skin to determine the best sequence of treatments to meet your skincare goals. When your treatment plan is chosen you will take antiviral medications, minimize excessive sun exposure, and make day-of-surgery arrangements.
4 Most Effective Laser Treatments
- Ablative Laser Treatments target improved skin tone and texture and a reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. Clients will also choose ablative laser treatments in the treatment of warts and scars. When choosing this type of treatment your recovery time will be approximately seven days with redness possibly continuing until the end of the second week. If you and your clinician decide on fractional CO2 treatments then your recovery time will be slightly shorter because it delivers energy to the skin while leaving small areas unexposed to thermal effect so more rapid healing is initiated. The ablative laser treatments are the most effective lasers with the fewest number of treatments with significant results.
- Non-Ablative Laser Treatments target discolorations of the skin like melasma, dark spots, freckles, and other forms of hyperpigmentation by penetrating the epidermis in a fractioned pattern using two different waves lengths; 1550nm for fines lines of the face, neck, hands, and decolletage and 1927nm for treating discolorations of the skin. There is considerably less downtime after fractional lasers and much milder than ablative laser treatments, but require several treatments for the best results. Clients should expect their skin to look sunburned, mild discoloration, and or be mildly swollen for three to five days. After completion clients’ skin will seem more youthful.
- Broad-Band Light or Intense Pulsed Light reduces areas of redness or hyperpigmentation for a very good improvement of color balance within the skin to restore a youthful complexion. Several treatments are required to reach the desired result but there is minimal downtime after the treatments.
- Radio Frequency, Ultrasound, and Thermal Energy Treatments are used by clinicians to help with skin firmness, elasticity, and plumpness. These treatments do not use lasers but are effective in rejuvenating your skin. These different treatments do have temporary to long-term effects on skin tightness but have no effect on issues that involve hyperpigmentation.
Side Effects of Laser Treatments
The side effects of laser treatments will depend on the type of treatment, your skin type, and your personal medical history but may include redness, swelling, itching, acne, infection, and scarring. To reduce your risk of side effects following laser treatments you will want to follow your doctor’s advice post treatments.
How Long Do Results Last from Laser Treatments?
Results from laser treatments are dependent on what laser treatment you choose, your skin type, and your medical history, but results last anywhere from three to ten years. The length of the results will also depend on the number of treatments you complete and how diligent you are with your aftercare. Typical aftercare includes staying out of the sun, using SPF, and staying hydrated.
